Press the windows key and the 'R' Button, the run box opens up. If it still won't enable there must be a physical switch located on the laptop itself that must be turned on. Once in the adapter settings right click the wireless device and select enable. Click on "open network and sharing" then click "change adapter settings" located on the left hand side. If it is disabled by windows right click the internet icon which is located on the start bar on the right side by the clock. I should also add that I am using Windows 7, and that when I open the list of available connections, all that comes up is a 'Broadband Connection. To enable this device, use Windows Device Manager. My other laptop is suddenly disconnected.
